SynergyLUG Diary: Muar Bricks Day started on 10:30AM with an awesome opening speech by Terry Toh from MuarYi, follow by our Synergy LUG representative, Vincent Kiew, briefing about our MOC displayed.

For SynergyLUG Diary: Muar Bricks Day, we conducted 5 contests and 1 game as shown below:-
The contests had a great response. Total of 71 prizes were given away. Below are the participants sorted according to the contests. 1. Tower building contest for age 6to 9 years old -15 participants 2. Tower building contest for age10 to 14 years old -15 participants 3. Minifig building contest forage 4 to 6 years old -11 participants 4. Blind building minifig contestfor age 7 to 12 years old - 15participants 5. Blind building contest for age7 to 12 years old -15 participants
As for Fun with LEGO Speed Champion for age 7 to 12 years old, we were using the event kit given by LEGO Community Engagement(LCE) which include 1 box of loose LEGO parts and a LEGO Speed Champion Ramp. There were total of 16 participants. The participants were given the loose parts to MOC a race car with the assistance of Synergy members. After they had done their MOC, they were required to test it on the ramp. Then, do some modification if necessary. At the end of the game, the 16 participants were surprise that they were allowed to take their MOC home.
Conclusion, SynergyLUG Diary: Muar Bricks Day is a successful event with a total number of 524 visitors recorded. We assume there were more visitors than the recorded one as some of the visitors did not fill out our visitor log book.
Firstly, I would like to thanks MuarYi for assisted us in the contests and sponsoring a great venue for this event. . Secondly, I would like to thanks Muar people who supported our event and contest. And thirdly, thanks to LCE, President Yan,and Fievel Foo for all the prizes that they sponsored in this event. Lastly, I really appreciate Synergy LUG members who sacrificed their precious time to help to make the event a success, thanks to all the “Tua Pui”.

Figure 1: Number of attendees attended the SynergyLUG Diary: Muar Bricks Day 2017event. The total number of attendees in each age group is as follow: < 7years old = 41; 7 – 10 = 79; 11 – 18 = 108; 19 – 25 = 43; 26 – 35 = 78; 36 – 45= 115; 46 – 50 = 22; 51 – 60 = 22; > 60 years old = 14.
This is an event organized by SynergyLUG, with collaboration from Muar Yi, a tourist information center at the heart of Muar town in Johor, Malaysia.
SynergyLUG made a visitor log book for the purpose of keeping track on the number of attendees for 2 reasons: (1) toevaluate the success of the event, and (2) to determine the age group distribution. We limit the amount of information collected from the visitors, hence, only their names and age are recorded.
This is a one-day event held at Muar Yi tourist center on the 1st September 2017 (Friday). It was a long weekend holiday in conjunction with our Malaysia Independence Day (31st August 2017), and the Muslim celebration(Hari Raya Haji). The total number of visitors recorded is 524 and the distribution of the age group is summarized in the graph below (Please refer toFigure 1).
We anticipated that there will be many families within Muar town as well as outside of Muar to visit this historical town during this 5-day long weekend holiday. Our record follows a bi-model distribution of age group with majority of teenagers (11 – 18 years old) and young parents (36 – 45 years old) attended the event. A total of 120 children (younger than 10 years old) attended this event. This information is useful for us to come up with interactive games that cater for children from different age groups. Without prior knowledge to the number of attendees, SynergyLUG have come up with interactive games that cater for younger audience (4 – 7 years old) and “older” audience (8 – 12 years old). The games were Tower building contest, minifig building contest, blind building minifigure contest, blind building contest and Fun with LEGO Speed Champion. We allowed 15 contestants for each game and have given awards to all participants (Please refer to the photos below). The overall response was fantastic as children and parents enjoyed this one-day event.
